Hi there. I am really hoping someone still checks this blog and can give me some advice. A lot of debt and missed payments were accrued in the last couple of years of my previous marriage. My ex had health and financial issues and lots of debt was racked up in my name and not paid by him. My salary could not substantiate the payments. Since that marriage ended about two years ago, I have managed to pay off ALL of the accumulated personal debt. (Roughly $50,000). I managed to get a VISA reinstated 8 months ago and was advised to pay the minimum balance for 6 months and then call back to have the limit increased in order to reestablish my credit. Every month, I have paid off the total balance owing ($600, $800, $900, etc.) instead of just a minimum payment. I now have a car payment, a joint mortgage payment (currently remarried), have acquired a second property with my husband, my one little $1000 limit VISA and a $10,000 open line of credit with nothing owing. Not only will VISA not increase my limit now (call back in another 6 months), but no other personal lendor will extend credit. On top of this, my salary has almost doubled in the last year and I currently have about $20,000 combined cash in my bank accounts. ALL of the denial is linked to my credit history from three to four years ago when I was trying to divorce my ex who actively participated in racking up the credit. (He is now self-employed, with a salary of $20,000, and yet has no problem getting personal credit.) The credit bureau tells me to try to get and pay off credit, but no lender will lend.....what to do?!
